Philanthropy
Hi! My name is Madison Dempsey and I serve as the Director of Service and Philanthropy here at Pi Beta Phi! At Pi Phi we focus on the importance of literacy. Being able to read is essential to future success. It is our hope, and was that of our founders, that we can have a direct impact on children becoming successful adults and leaders - by sharing our passion for literacy. Because we believe literacy efforts start at home and we hope to empower our local community, we enjoy reading to kids in schools, working to make learning fun, and holding book drives to provide books for local schools and classrooms across America. We have the privilege of knowing how to read which empowers us to chase our dreams, earn a degree and become anything we want to be! We are humbled and honored to be able to share that same hope with others in our community and across the nation. What better gift than literacy, and a love for learning could we give to impact a child’s life?
Each semester, we hold events and opportunities to support Read>Lead>Achieve. Our main events occur during our philanthropy week Halo Week, which happens once a semester. During this week, we hold tabling events, sporting events within the UT community, and percentage nights with restaurants in the Knoxville area. All proceeds from these events go straight back to our philanthropic efforts to support literacy and break down any educational boundaries.
Our philanthropy is a huge part of who we are as a chapter, and our efforts to give back to our community not only help us grow as women, but fosters our lifelong commitment to service and education.
